IMPACT is joining more than 20 civil society groups, companies, and small-scale mining organizations in signing a call to action to the gold and jewellery industry today. We urge the gold and jewellery industry to include artisanal and small-scale mining in their supply chains.
The call highlights:
- The greatest opportunity for the gold and jewellery industry to generate positive economic, social and environmental impact is to support artisanal and small-scale miners.
- Recycling and closed loop measures have significant environmental benefits, but given the millions of people who depend on artisanal and small-scale mining, companies that choose 100% recycled gold are disengaging from urgent needs in their supply chain.
- We encourage the industry to have a sourcing strategy that includes recycled and responsible metals from artisanal and small-scale mining.
